Overall evaluation
A par score is assigned to each hole. The number of shots required to achieve an even score is known as par. To achieve a par score on a par-5 hole, for example, the golfer must hit five shots from the tee box to the cup. Most 18-hole golf courses have a par score of 70 to 72, with the bulk of the holes being par-4. The rest of the holes are par-3 or par-5. In most golf tournaments, scoring is done using stroke play, which counts each shot as one stroke. The number of strokes under, even with, or over the par score is frequently used to describe a player’s performance. On a par-72 course, a golfer who shoots 65 is seven under par, or minus-seven. A golfer who shoots an 80 is eight strokes over par, or +8.
Even is a golfer who shoots 72, which is par for the course. It’s preferable to be under par than over par, although your score may vary depending on your level of competition or personal objectives.
Par
A par score is achieved when a golfer completes a hole in the number of strokes stated on the course scorecard, as mentioned in Section 1.
To get par on a par-4 hole, for example, a golfer must complete the hole in four shots. Golfers can usually hit the tee shot onto the green on par-3 holes since they are shorter.
A par-5 hole, on the other hand, may need three or four strokes to reach the green. As of 2010, the USGA issued the following yardage guidelines for determining a hole’s par score: par 3, up to 250 yards (men), up to 210 yards (women); par 4, 251 yards to 470 yards (men), 211 yards to 400 yards (women); par 5, 471 yards to 690 yards (men), 401 yards to 590 yards (women); par 6, 471 yards to 690 yards (men), 401 yards to 590 yards (women); (women).
A birdie is a score that is one stroke below par.
Birdies can be made on any hole, but par-4 and par-5 holes are the most common. A par-3 hole is more difficult since the golfer must get the ball into the hole in two shots.
Eagle
A score of eagle is when a golfer completes a hole in two shots less than par. The majority of eagles are made on par-4 or par-5 holes.
A pair of eagles
When a golfer makes a double eagle, also known as an albatross, he or she completes a par-5 hole in two strokes.
A golfer would have to drive the ball off the tee and then hit the ball into the hole on the second stroke. In golf, an albatross is a remarkable accomplishment.
Hole-in-One
When a golfer makes a hole-in-one on the tee shot, it is known as a hole-in-one. The hole-in-one is most common on par-3 holes, as the distance from the tee to the green is usually within reach of most golfers.
On a shorter par 4 (about 300 yards), players will occasionally record a hole-in-one. When a hole-in-one can be verified by a witness, it is considered official.
Bogey
A bogey is a score of one stroke over par on a golf course. A score of two shots over par is considered a double bogey, three shots over par is considered a triple bogey, and four shots over par is considered a quadruple bogey.
